Odekhoa Akhume Okaisabor Memorial Foundation is a non-profit, non-governmental organization registered in 2006 under the relevant Nigerian Laws. The foundation was established to cater for orphans and empower widows with vocational and entrepreneurial skills and other resources needed for economic self-reliance and sustainable livelihood.
The foundation was named after the late Mr. Odekhoa Akhume Okaisabor who died on board the belview aircraft which crashed in Lisa village in Ogun state on October 22, 2005 shortly after take-off from the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, leaving behind a young widow, four children, aged parents, siblings and other relations.
The foundation was founded by Honourable Justice Dr. Ngozika Okaisabor, a Judge of the customary court of appeal (Federal Capital Territory) Abuja. After the sudden death of her husband, it dawned on her what it meant to be a widow. The challenge of bringing up the children and running the home all alone as the society’s attitude towards widows became a reality to her. Self-lessly, she began to have this burden in her to help widows who due to circumstances beyond their control and the situation they have found themselves in, find it difficult to pay their children’s school fees and take care of other domestic needs.
